PLEASE JOIN US IN OUR       KINDNESS PLEDGE

Today I will use kind words and actions,

befriend those who are sad or lonely,

thank those who do nice things for me,

and share my smile with everyone.

I will look for new opportunities to be kind and "RECYCLE JOY!"

                              MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

We have some ideas for "random acts of kindness" to get you started:

Help around the house without being asked.

Hold doors for people.

Help someone pick up things they have dropped.

Let someone go ahead of you in the lunch line.

Put handwritten notes or drawings by the pain medicine in the drug store.

Share.

Ask someone who you don't usually hang out with to sit by you at lunch or play with you at recess.

Tell the school staff - cafeteria, maintenance, front desk, etc. thank you - maybe even write them a thank you note.

Compliment someone.

Talk with someone who is upset and ask how you can help.

If your friends are gossiping, remind them that this is not kind.

Give a snack to a homeless person.

Bake cookies for an elderly or sick neighbor, or bring to your fire or police station.

Ask your parents if you can let someone go ahead of you in the line at the grocery.

Pick up litter in the park, in your neighborhood, or anywhere.

Give toys or clothes you have outgrown to a shelter or charity.

Visit a nursing home, bring some homemade cards or drawings. Play cards with some of the residents.

Write a letter to send to a soldier.

Leave a note for a neighbor who lives alone, maybe a nice drawing.

Make pretty bookmarks and leave them at the library.

Write a note to a school neighbor saying how much you enjoy going to school in their neighborhood and leave it on their porch.

BE KIND to UNKIND PEOPLE - THEY NEED IT THE MOST!

Smile at everyone!

            Why RECYCLE JOY?

We are Junior Girl Scout Troop 40398 and we are students at the International School of Louisiana.  We have been working together as a troop for 4 years. Now we are working on our Bronze Award - the highest award a Junior can earn. We are really excited about this project we named "RECYCLE JOY" and we hope you will be too!

It is a positive peer pressure project, showing people some things they can do to improve the world around them instead of just telling them what not to do.  It is a project that will help all of us learn how to be nicer to each other - to our friends, families and even strangers. We hope it will have a big impact on the people we are doing nice things for.

We have learned that doing random acts of kindness can change people's attitudes and also their actions by reducing anger and frustration.  It is easy to be nice to others when others are nice to us, but we also need to be nice to others when they are not nice to us. We agree with the saying "Be kind to unkind people, they need it the most!"

A small act can turn someone's day from terrible to ok or even GREAT! And hopefully, they will pass on that kindness and so "RECYCLE JOY!"

How are you recycling joy?

Share your good deeds with us!

Tell us where you're from!

Recycle JOY!

Thank you for RECYCLING JOY!
